I set up Sarah The Dog Carer in February 2018 after getting my first dog, Bailey the Labradoodle in November 2017 (I now also have a German Shepherd called Bella who joined me in November 2019!). Dogs have been my favourite animal since I was little and used to walk my neighbour’s dog after school. I did my work experience at school in a veterinary practice and went on to work at a kennels when I was in sixth form. I then did my work placement at Dogs Trust while in University where I gained my BA Honours in Biology .. can you tell I just love dogs?!
In the first summer of starting the business I completed a pitch to Santander at The University of Chester and I won a business grant along with several other packages, including a dog photo shoot! I sold my car and put all the money towards a van and fitted internal crates which are all carpeted throughout so your dog has a comfy ride to and from their walk.
I love visiting dogs from puppies and watching them grow, I build such a bond with all the dogs I walk and they truly brighten my day. I always look forward to seeing them and they have the best time on their walks with their friends!
I now also work with Beth who joined me in September 2019 and all the dogs love her to bits! Andy her partner also helps me out and I don't know what I'd do without them. We really make a great team and together. We just want to ensure the dogs get their exercise and have lots of fun at the same time - making the dogs happy seeing them have a great time on their walks makes us happy too!
I joined Sarah in September 2019 when she was looking for some help. I loved being out with the dogs and when Sarah needed time off Andy (my partner) would come and help me cover walking the dogs and he loved it too! I now help Sarah on all the walks and Andy does a few days a month with us and then covers when Sarah is off.
A bit more about us - We rescued Samson, our best friend (and adopted furry baby) almost 5 years ago. He was 6 months old at the time, and his arrival was totally unplanned and sudden when we rescued him from a neighbour. We later discovered, after taking him, just how much in need of rescuing he had been; he had spent his first 6 months of life caged in a paved back garden. He was covered in ticks, infested with fleas and had never seen grass! Needless to say, Samson has made mine and Andrew's life complete, and, we hope, his own too. Rescuing him sparked an ambition in us both to find a way to bring doggy-love to the forefront of our lives - and indeed we have. We have since taken care of many friend's and families dog's, and have made innumerable friend's with the dogs on Andrew's courier round!
We found Sarah at just the right time. I do not know many people in their 20's who love their work as we do.
Sarah's love of dog's is unquestionable; befriending all of her furry friends has been wonderful. We feel it an honour for her to have accepted us both into her business, or rather, as it turns out, her way of life!
Dog's bring out the best in us, and reward us with immense joy.
